Epitsi
Epitse (or Epitsi) is a traditional Ghanaian delicacy made from mashed overripe plantains, spices (ginger, onion, pepper), and sometimes roasted corn flour or cassava flour. It is typically wrapped in leaves (such as banana leaves) and baked, creating a sweet, savoury, and soft plantain pudding often served as a snack.
Popular in Ghana, particularly in the Central Region (often associated with Elmina/Cape Coast).
Ingredients:
Overripe plantains, onion, ginger, pepper, salt, palm oil, and optional roasted corn flour or flour.
Cooking Method:
Traditionally baked in leaves (often called akotro) until firm but soft, providing a unique aroma and flavour and served with roasted peanuts (nkatsi) or enjoyed alone as a snack. It is highly regarded as a nutritious, affordable, and comforting, sustainable snack.
